The National Police Service (NPS) has announced the death of a Kenyan officer attached to the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) in Haiti.
The officer was involved in a road accident on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at about 2:00 am GMT along the Kenscoff-Pétion-Ville Road in the Pèlerin 9 area.
NPS said the crash happened during a recovery operation involving two MaxxPro vehicles. While one vehicle was towing the other, it developed mechanical problems, leading to the accident.
The incident left one MSS officer and a Haitian civilian dead after they were rushed to Lambert Santé Hospital in Pétion-Ville.
Eight other MSS officers were injured, three of them critically.

The injured first received treatment at the Aspen Level 2 Hospital at the LSA 2 base, with plans underway to medically evacuate the three critically hurt officers to the Dominican Republic for specialized care.
NPS spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga sent condolences to the family and colleagues of the officer, pledging the service’s support during the difficult period.
“The National Police Service extends its deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and relatives of the fallen officer and assures them of our unwavering support during this time of profound sorrow,” Nyaga said.
MSS spokesperson Jack Ombaka also confirmed the incident.
“On Sunday, 31 August 2025, at approximately 1700 hours, officers of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) were involved in a tragic road traffic accident along the Kenscoff–Pétion-Ville road at Perlerin 9," he stated.

“Eight MSS officers sustained injuries, three of the injured are in serious condition and require medical evacuation to the Dominican Republic for specialized treatment after initial care at the Aspen Level 2 Hospital at the LSA 2," he added.
The latest accident also comes weeks after three MSS officers were injured in Port-au-Prince while responding to reports of an imminent gang attack in Kenscoff.
During that incident, gangs trapped two armored personnel carriers in trenches and later set them on fire. The injured officers were treated at Aspen Level 2 Hospital and later discharged.
Arrangements are being made by the MSS, together with the Haitian National Police, to return the officer’s body to Kenya while ensuring continued medical care for those injured in the accident.
