Motorists across Kenya will pay slightly less at the pump this month after the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) announced a marginal drop in fuel prices in its latest review released on Sunday, September 14.

Effective midnight on Monday, September 15, pump prices in Nairobi will stand at Ksh184.52 for Super Petrol, Ksh171.47 for Diesel, and Ksh154.78 for Kerosene.

In the adjustments released on Sunday, September 14, the cost of Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene dipped by Ksh0.79, Ksh0.11, and Ksh0.80 per litre, respectively.

"In accordance with Section 101(y) of the Petroleum Act 2019 and Legal Notice No.192 of 2022, we have calculated the maximum retail prices of petroleum products which will be in force from 15th September 2025 to 14th  October 2025," the statement from EPRA read in part.

This marks the second consecutive month of relief for consumers, following a Ksh1 drop in Super Petrol during last month’s review.

In Mombasa, motorists will pay slightly less with Super Petrol retailing at Ksh181.24 and Diesel at Ksh168.19. Thika residents will part with Ksh184.16 for petrol and Ksh171.47 for diesel.

The new prices, which will remain in force until October 14, 2025, include the 16% Value Added Tax as provided for in the Finance Act 2023 and the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024.

EPRA attributed the marginal relief to a slight decline in the landed cost of imported petroleum products. Super Petrol costs dipped by 0.46%, Diesel by 3.38%, and Kerosene by 2.93% between July and August.

The announcement came in contrast to the Central Bank of Kenya’s weekly bulletin, which noted that global oil prices had risen by 2.5 per cent due to heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Kenya, which relies heavily on imported petroleum, sets pump prices based on international crude movements, shipping costs, and exchange rates.

The new prices are inclusive of the 16 per cent VAT as required by the Finance Act 2023 and the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024, and will remain in effect until October 14, 2025.
