Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki has announced that the government will recruit a total of 116,000 teachers by the year 2027.
Speaking at Kasikeu Market on Thursday, June 12, during a fundraising event for women and youth empowerment programmes in Kilome Constituency, Prof. Kindiki said that 76,000 teachers have already been employed since 2022.
He added that 24,000 more will be recruited in December 2025, bringing the total to 100,000 by the end of that year.
“Previous governments have been recruiting only 4,000 to 5,000 teachers. The government has employed 76,000 teachers and an additional 24,000 will be recruited by December. The target will be achieved by 2027,” said Prof. Kindiki.
The Deputy President also urged youth to take up available job opportunities through various government programmes. He cited the Affordable Housing and market construction projects, which have so far created employment for 250,000 youth, while 400,000 others have benefited from the Kazi Majuu initiative.

He added that the government had revived the construction industry, creating indirect jobs in sectors such as iron sheet supply, carpentry, welding, and architecture.
Prof. Kindiki called on the youth to apply for the Climate Workx programme—formerly Kazi Mtaani—before the closing date on Sunday, June 15, 2025. The initiative involves tasks such as cleaning rivers and unclogging drainage systems. It is set to be expanded from Nairobi County to all 47 counties.
On agriculture, he said the government would continue to supply subsidised fertiliser, noting that the country currently has enough food and surplus.
He also announced plans to construct ICT hubs in markets, TVET institutions, and universities to support youth engagement in e-commerce and online jobs.
