
Over 40,000 Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) learners across 673 centers in Uasin Gishu County benefit from a school milk program every Tuesday and Thursday.
This initiative, championed by Governor Jonathan Bii, aims to enhance child development by providing nutritious milk twice a week.
During a visit to the Pioneer ECDE Center in Kipkenyo Ward, Governor Bii engaged with learners and participated in the distribution of milk, highlighting the administration's commitment to fostering a conducive learning environment.
The program, known as Maziwa ya Koti, began in May 2023 and is part of the county's efforts to improve the quality of education and overall well-being of young learners.
Governor Jonathan Bii expressed pride in his free milk feeding program, which has boosted Early Childhood Development (ECD) school enrollment in Uasin Gishu by over 10%.
Before the program's launch, ECD units in the county had about 40,000 learners.
Since the introduction of the free milk supply, an additional 4,000 pupils have joined the classes.
The school milk program is part of broader initiatives to support education and child development in Uasin Gishu County.
The administration has also made strides in enhancing the working conditions for ECDE teachers in the county and ensuring the availability of instructional materials, emphasizing the commitment to improving educational standards and teacher welfare.
