President William Ruto

A last-minute rush is underway among young people across the country as the application window for the On-the-Job Experience (OJE) segment of the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Project draws to a close at midnight on Friday, February 13.

In a statement, the State Department for Youth Affairs and Creative Economy confirmed that the application window shuts today, urging eligible youth to complete the process before the deadline lapses.

“Today marks the final deadline for applications to the NYOTA Project On-the-Job Experience (OJE) component. You have only a few hours remaining to take a decisive step toward building practical skills and unlocking meaningful employment opportunities,” the department said.

Applicants are required to dial *254# and select the OJE option to register. The department stated that the process takes only a few minutes and is free of charge.

The OJE programme seeks to attach 90,000 youth to master trainers for six months, offering hands-on skills development and a monthly stipend of Ksh6,000.

Eligible candidates must be Kenyan citizens aged 18 to 29 years, or up to 35 years for Persons with Disabilities, and have a Form Four education level or below.

The Ksh5 billion NYOTA Project is funded in partnership with the World Bank and aims to reach 820,000 vulnerable youth across all 47 counties over five years.

President William Ruto has been touring counties to oversee the rollout and release of funds.

In Mandera County, Ksh63 million was distributed to 2,520 youth, with a similar allocation made in Garissa County, including support for refugee youth.

The programme also provides Ksh50,000 entrepreneurship grants to 110,000 young entrepreneurs and includes a Recognition of Prior Learning component targeting 20,000 youth.
