Four Dead, Dozens Injured as Saba Saba Protests Turn Deadly

At least four people have been confirmed dead in Kangemi and Ngong amid violent Saba Saba protests that have erupted across various parts of the country, with growing outrage over the use of live ammunition and restricted access to emergency medical services.

According to reports, the two victims in the area were already deceased when emergency teams arrived.

“There was nothing we could do. They had succumbed before we could reach them,” the medic said, adding that barricades erected by demonstrators had made it nearly impossible for ambulances to access the hardest-hit areas.

One of the individuals killed in Kangemi was reportedly a bystander on his way home from work when he was struck by a stray bullet.

At the same time, two people were also confirmed dead following clashes in Ngong, with several others sustaining injuries.

Residents have decried a lack of emergency medical services, even as disturbing images circulated online showing live bullets lodged in homes and compounds.

Videos seen by Daily Times Kenya show police officers patrolling residential estates, guns drawn, and allegedly firing live rounds, further stoking public fury over what many are calling excessive force.

In Ongata Rongai, another person was reportedly shot as tensions escalated in the area. His condition remains unknown.

Meanwhile, mounting frustrations have also been directed at security forces after a video surfaced earlier today showing police blocking an ambulance en route to Nairobi’s Central Business District.

The incident has drawn swift condemnation from the National Gender and Equality Commission, which urged law enforcement to respect the rights enshrined in the Constitution.

"We call upon security agencies to uphold dignity, humanity & constitutional rights," the commission said in a statement.
