Speaking while presenting bursary cheques to
the needy students in Turbo Sub-County on
Thursday, the governor said that this substantial allocation marks a
significant increase of Ksh.46 million from the previous year's budget.
The bursaries will support 23,330
students across secondary schools, tertiary colleges, universities, and
vocational training institutions.
Governor Bii expressed his dedication to
inclusivity, stating that beneficiaries
are drawn from all 30 Wards of the County.
"Our goal is to uplift
the educational standards of our children by providing them with the necessary
financial support," he said. "We are committed to increasing this
allocation to Ksh.200 million to reach even more children from needy
families."
The county boss further stated
that the bursary will help learners from disadvantaged backgrounds realize
their dreams.
County Assembly Speaker Hon.
Philip K. Mugei, who attended the launch, reiterated the assembly's support for
the initiative.
He stressed the transformative
power of education, noting, "Education is the great equalizer. It is the
only way children from both affluent and humble backgrounds can have equal
opportunities and share a table."
Among the beneficiaries
present at the launch is Jane Wanjiku, a student at the Kenya Medical Training
College in Eldoret, who dreams of becoming a nurse.
Expressing her gratitude, she
said, "This bursary is a beacon of hope for me and many others. It
relieves the financial burden on my family and brings me closer to my dream of
serving my community as a nurse. Without this support, I wouldn’t be able to
continue my studies."
The event was attended by students from various learning institutions and other senior county officials.
